Currants are from the family Saxifragaceae... I am wondering what do with these, maybe a ginger-currant creme brulee? I want a propane torch! Is that a fire hazard in the kitchen?
When you buy propane torch, please be aware usually the propane does not come with the package. Let me know if you find where to purchase the propane can....Our 'brand-new' 3 years old propane torch need the "fuel" too. Aha~
i loved the use of these currants in your scones. the tartness offers a good balance to the blueberries! i didn't want to share the scone with my sister but i had to cuz she kept staring at me with sad eyes... i've also tasted red currants simply covered with sugar at chez panisse served with chocolate truffled almonds. deliciously simple! i'll send you a picture! i don't know how she made that sugar coating stick to the currants. it looked like ice crystals on holly berries and it reminded me of christmas even tho' it was a hot july day in berkeley.
W: We got the torch for creme brulee. However, I found you can still caramelize the suger without propane torch by place the custard cups close to oven top.

Winter Wonders and the Order of the Universe
Although we still don't know what 96% of the universe is made of, cooking is a way to manipulate the edible 4% we DO know into delicious wonders. However, the laws of time and space apply. You can turn an egg into an omelette, but you can't turn an omelette into an egg!
What is Creyde anyways?
